Domaine Glantenet Père et Fils

| |

Our family has been in Burgundy since the 15th century with the domaine being founded in the 18th century.  Today Jean-François GLANTENET is in charge of an operation covering 25 hectares (62 acres) spread over five communes.  The domaine has made it's wines in the traditional manner since 1997, the first year of bottling it's own production, and now produces about 25,000 bottles per year.
The wines are sold either from the cellar or at any of the many wine fairs that we attend throughout the year.
Our objective is to offer quality wines, matured in oak barrels for 12 months and to produce seductive wines which are at the same time modest and brilliant and which express the charm and authenticity of the "terriors" of the two "Hautes Côtes".

One hill hides behind another in the range which gently rises forming the "Hautes Côtes", the natural extension of the western Côte.
This, the original winegrowing area, is a mosaic made up of vines, meadows, fields and orchards. Thirty six kilometres (22½ miles) long from above Vougeot (Côte d'Or) in the north to near Santenay in the South.  Whilst vines have been present for centuries in the "Hautes Côtes" it was only in 1961 that the "Hautes Côtes de Nuits" and the "Hautes Côtes de Beaune" received their AOC ("Appellation d'Origine Controllée).  Since then, year after year their success has grown.
Over the years the two "Hautes Côtes" have acquired other things as well as their letters of nobility: sorting tables, stemmer-crushers, pneumatic presses, new barrels.....
Both the "Hautes Côtes de Beaune" and the "Hautes Côtes de Nuits" produce excellent Burgundies, full and aromatic.

Today the domaine spreads over 25 hectares (62 acres) all within the five communes of Pernand-Vergelesses, Corgoglin, Echevronne, Villers-la-faye and Magny-les-villers where the domaine is situated.  It is here that the "Hautes Côtes de Nuits" and the "Haute Côtes de Beaune" meet.
Helped by Valerie and the other members of the team, Pascale and Sylvie, Jean-François runs the family business in a manner which respects the traditions of the industry and the "terroir".  The vines are worked in the environmentally friendly manner "lutte raisonnée" (treatment using chemicals is kept to a minimum) the parcels of vines to be used are carefully chosen, as for example with the old vines.
Each year the vine follows it's vegetative cycle and by pruning, burning the vine trimmings, trimming off new, unwanted shoots growing at the foot of the vines ("evasivage"), the best possible crop is produced, thus giving the wines of the two "Hautes Côtes" the character of grand Burgundies.
